Gavin Menzies – Who Really Discovered America?

Gavin Menzies

I learned in school that Columbus discovered America. But one man and a huge team have mounted a body of evidence that suggests the Chinese beat him to it. Do history books have to be rewritten? Gavin Menzies is the author of 1421: The Year China Discovered America, a 14-year journey of exploration and discovery. This controversial discovery is bound to challenge your thinking about the realm of exploration and discovery.

Gavin Menzies has also written a book about the European Renaissance called 1434: The Year A Magnificent Chinese Fleet Sailed to Italy and Ignited the Renaissance. This interview with Gavin Menzies – the first in a two-part series – will be focused primarily on 1421.

Hello, I must add here – no one HAS ever DISCOVERED America – as no one ever ‘discovered’ England or India or China or any country on the planet – it’s ALL been known about ‘by the whole world’ for a long long time.

it’s the BIG BROTHER catch word ‘discovery’ < it's a NLP operative 'blinder' – we do not 'discover' the Universe ( which allows US to roll tanks down other peoples yards ) – we 'create' the Universe – and are directly responsible for every THOUGHT AND ACTION.. MM JUST LIKE GOD!

Check out to see the multiple distortions, fabrications and lies proferred by Mr Menzies

Thank you for visiting us. We appreciate your participation. Could you please explain more why you feel that Gavin Menzies findings are distortions, fabrications and lies? This is a worthwhile topic for discussion. Keep in mind that new information that alters our worldview is usually opposed.

For the sake of discussion, it would be useful to specify your issues and then provide references. In this case, you simply called our guest a liar. Please explain what he lied about specifically. We’re hoping to promote discussion rather than hit pieces.

Gavin Menzies is a dangerous person. Important but dangerous. All through history people have been killed or thrown out of windows because they did not believe in the official history. Gavin is probably the most important historical figure since Darwin. Wether he is right or wrong does not matter, he makes us think. It does not matter that he give the shadow the same weight as the bowling ball, we can figure that out later.

A quick word about Columbus. It is easy to figure out how to go if you know where you are going. Columbus knew from his brother who was a mapmaker that there were two islands across the ocean. That seems to be fairly well known about this time.He also was aware of Marco Polo’s trip records. He assumed that the islands were off the coast of Asia. So that was to be where he would go. His estimates of the size of the Earth were off by a third because of this. He did not even get to the mainland until his fourth voyage. That says something about his information.and he did not arrive at North America, only South America and not much of that. You would think if he was to become viceroy of these lands he would have done some exploring. And to die broke and without title after all that….More comments to come later. out of time today

Another thing to consider: Not who was first , but who in all came over. There are a great number of books on the subject, most of which came before Gavin’s, that proclaim that the Egyptians, Phoenicians, Romans, Jews and dozens of others were here first. It does not matter, but we should honor them by finding out if they were here at all. A great magazine to start exploring is ANCIENT AMERICAN -they cover most of the ideas about America. The foreign miners of Michigan’s Copper, Mound builders of the Mississippi, and others. Therer is plenty of information out there thanks to tireless people like Gavinn. I may not agree with everything he says, but I appreciate he took the time to tell us about it.

    • Kim Greenhouse Feb 17, 2010 @ 13:22

Henry, thoughtful piece. So many came before us all. I can’t wait to keep on learning. I will look into Ancient American. Thank you for tuning in.

Someone once said … “the Earth is not the center of the Universe” and the indoctrinated dogmas created by traditionalist(s) says “HERESY!!!”

And so the like of Giordano Bruno and others who used Copernican principles found themselves burned at the stake.

And here is Gavin Menzies freely walking and thinking and submitting products of his brain like a child full of curiosity ~ On the other_hand, “serious” people are really a danger to Humanity.

“Ethics” is simply a last-gasp attempt by deist conservatives and orthodox dogmatics to keep humanity in ignorance and obscurantism, through the well tried fermentation of fear, the fear of science and new technologies.

There is nothing glorious about what our ancestors call history, it is simply a succession of mistakes, intolerances and violations.

On the contrary, let us embrace Science and the new technologies unfettered, for it is these which will liberate mankind from the myth of god, and free us from our age old fears, from disease, death and the sweat of labour.

    Hello Karen,
We posted this 26th Feb 2008: Videos: UNTOLD BLACK HISTORY – The True History Of Black Americans – “Everyone Should Watch These Videos”

And there is so much more interesting information to be found by exploring here: Archaeology Answers About Ancient Civilizations: and here History: and here Astronomy – Geocentricity – Heliocentricity – Does The Earth Go Around The Sun Or Does The Sun Go Around The Earth?:

I also totally agree with Robert. Love For Life consciousness research reveals what Robert stated……. to be true.

Whoever controls how others think and feel
And causes them to act on these feelings and thoughts
Is given all the power by those whose thoughts and feelings are controlled

I read jeff wade criticize expert like Dr Thompson and others, what is he a KNOW ALL EXPERT??? bob

Right, Geoff Wade contacted someone named Jin Guo Ping from Portugal, Jin then contacted several Chinese scholars warning them to label Liu Gang’s “world map” as fake or suffer the consequence of losing face to the “international academia”.
That’s why there were Chinese “experts” denouncing Liu Gang’s “world map”(which would add more weight to Gavin Menzies 1421 hypothesis) the minute it is displayed.

However there was a Chinese scholar who also received Jin Guo Ping’s warning did not listen to him. Even though he is also skeptical of Menzies book, he did not think it’s the right thing to do as to labeling Liu Gang’s map as “fake” without having examined it first. Menzies maybe a “liar” in the eyes of those so called scholars, but those so called scholars can have some “unscholarly” behaviors.

So the skeptics from “international academia” happily used the quick negations from those Chinese scholars to their advantage.

How can one even discover territory already occupied by people thousands of years prior? LOL The only folks no one dares to question to further their search for “knowledge” (ie usurping Native history) are Natives themselves. Were American Indians the builders of earthen mounds and other monuments? According to most folks who subscribe to Menzies and other hacks, nope. I guess we were too stupid or ignorant to figure out for ourselves what others around the world did. Give it a rest.

    • Kim Greenhouse Jun 15, 2010 @ 6:02

You are welcome to have your reaction and input. It certainly does not sound like you read his book at all. Perhaps you should take your time as I and many others have and read the evidence, not just by Gavin Menzies, but also by Charlotte Rees, who wrote
the book Secrets of The Ancient World that even surpasses Gavin’s findings showing that the Chinese were here thousands of years
before Columbus. You may want to pick up that book as well and hear that interview. If you can try to refrain from being
offended by such discoveries and become like a child in your spirit to learn new things, discovery may be very exciting. It’s just part of revisionist history. Few challenge the history that has been taught over the years and we blindly believe everything we are told.

  • Herp Derp Jun 18, 2010 @ 16:29

While I’m sure you support Menzies due to the fact that he appeared on the rainmaking radio show (I’ve seen the Youtube vids), I’ll take your support of him as a reciprocating act of kindness: His presence on the show gave you a bit of publicity. Pffft.

Well then, I’ve read the book. Read it in between class breaks at my school. The entire book reads like a novel and not an honest to goodness work of history. Far too many assumptions and Menzies’ personal injections make it quite unpalatable. I’ve read input about his endeavors on a lot of websites (Chinahistoryforum for one) and many shoot down his theories. Mind you, these are people who are into studying Chinese history, whether they’re Asian or not.
Oh, then there’s the controversy he roused up when he belittled the Maori of New Zealand saying they’re essentially the products of rape (against Chinese whores no less). That’s one way to cement great relations with the indigenous folks. Even reinforcing white supremacist groups claims against native Maori with the entire idea that the patu paiarehe are either white (which these supremacist groups claim as a manner of invalidating treaties signed with the Maori) or Chinese. Either way it leaves a rather horrible colonial taste in the mouths of indigenous people and is a reason why Waikato University asked Menzies to drop them as a source. Oh, but we’re not here to think about the repercussions against indigenous people or what THEY make of their own history. Oh no, we’re just in the way of your playful fantasies to satisfy YOUR curiosities. Maybe if you were born into one of many disenfranchised native groups on this earth you’d be thinking twice about telling any native person, Indian or not, to “refrain from being offended” (like I haven’t heard that one before). Now, I’ll just allow this comment to be deleted or be completely misconstrued as a misunderstanding on my part because as we all know: Native input is “fantasy” unless it corroborates non-Native half-truths aka “we don’t care what an Indian thinks or has to say”.

    Good day.

I am most interested in the Hypothesis presented by Gavin Menzies. In some of my personal research I have encountered some data and information that would tend to add weight to his concepts–I look forward to Obtaining the books for my Library. The Golden Gate of San Francisco was called the Golden Mouth by Chinese people who came during Gold rush- The Seafaring technology of China was quite Amazing- there are tales of chinese fisherman establishing fishing villages in California prior to Spanish/Portuguise/English exploration. Hollow Stone Anchors have been found in various California Bays- I am not sure how long these have been used if they are Neolithic or continued to be used in 18-19 centuries by Chinese Sailors. – There is folklore that says that before European exploration and settlement there was a fishing Village at the site China Beach in SF and at other sites in SF Bay region which might have been Abandoned due to Earthquake /Tsunami devastation- The people who might have survived might have mixed intermingled & intermarried with local Indigenes Triblets Families of Californian Native Americans.

I know that the Chinese discovered America & not Columbus. The reason I know this is because I keep close watch over everything China does thru watching tv direct from Beijing on CCTV. Its in English. Anyway CHINA HAS DOCUMENTS THAT PROVE THIS Chinese guy I forget his name & his sailing fleet made many forays into America & other lands way before 1492 or Columbus. You other ignorant Americans go do some serious research. AND there was an american tv special 2 yrs ago or more which presented the exact same info of which I reference. I am American but I study Chinese culture & speak a little Chinese. I have been studying China & Asia since the 1970’s.

    • Kim Greenhouse Aug 11, 2011 @ 8:20

      Dear Laxmi,

      I just saw this post.

You do not need to attack anybody to make your point.

Saying that “You other ignorant Americans need to do some serious research” is rude and unnecessary to make your point.

If you comment with critical thinking, I expect you to use basic people manners, as if you were a guest in someone’s home.

From this point forward, please use basic people manners even when you have something critical to say.

      Thank you.

would like to address mr. gavin menzies, on his history facts, on who discovered america? he was half right, christopher columbus did not discover america, but neither did china, spainiard who set sail back in the middle 15th century, he was headed to mexico on a voyage after herman cortez sent word back to spain on the riches of gold! and silver he found! so america berestusi, set sail for mexico, in route he incountered a storm at sea, which put him in the florida keys, by mistake, which this in turn would have made him the first person and his his crew to land on american soil, ever wondered where the name, and why was this country named america!

having just listened to this, and ordered all of the above books, i must make a point of all the above. the key here is the grand canal, a people dont just say “yes” and follow blindly, what we have here is proof.of the actual shifting of the worlds poles. the chinese had access to rice prior to the shift, after the shift there was a known source, but lack of transportation. the scandinavians had the ability to go south not because they could go south, but because they could go west (what would become the new south). the vast pacific was essentially a equatorial sea. thank you G. M., and Ms. Greenhouse. now we need to recalculate the Ark (noah) since it occured prior to the shift, it is not where it is expected!
