Understanding ‘Religious Spirit’

Kim Greenhouse discusses a universal element she refers to as a ‘Religious Spirit’ that tends to induce separation, disconnection, and division among people. This isn’t linked to any specific religion, be it Judaism, Islam, Christianity, Mormonism or any other religion. Instead, it relates to a deeply ingrained belief system, often accompanied by a powerful emotional investment.

The Religious Spirit concept transcends religious boundaries, reflecting our personal beliefs and faith journey. This discussion isn’t about the geographical origins of your faith or the specific beliefs you hold. It’s about understanding the profound influence of this spiritual phenomenon on your life.

Religion vs. Spirituality

The conversation then delves into the subtle differences between spirituality and religiousness, suggesting that every religion, despite its unique earthly doctrines, carries inherent limitations and narrow viewpoints.

It’s important to remember that religious texts, while possibly divinely inspired, were penned by humans, thus subject to human interpretation and potential error.

Impact of Translation on Religious Content

The translation of religious content is a significant aspect that can alter the original meanings over time. Kim emphasizes how our understanding of sacred texts like the Bible or the Zohar can be skewed by multiple translations, cultural reinterpretations, and mistranslations. These factors can significantly distort the original essence of these ancient writings.

In contemporary society, we often encounter multiple versions of the Bible, each translated from different cultures and languages, far removed from its original Aramaic roots. This dilution of original texts can lead to misinterpretations and misunderstanding of the intended message.

The Personal Impact of the Religious Spirit

Kim shares personal experiences and examples of how the Religious Spirit has manifested in her life, influencing her relationships and community interactions.

She underscores the need to discern whether we have unknowingly adopted a Religious Spirit, as it can subtly drive a wedge between individuals and communities.

This exploration is crucial for understanding our spiritual path and improving our relationships within our communities.

I sincerely hope that the truth that’s in this video won’t be filtered out by closed minds. We do get almost religious about most of the things in our lives – things have to be one way for an individual or society, and anyone who doesn’t conform is obviously wrong and evil – to be shunned at all cost. I still remember being told once that “If you don’t drive a Ford truck, you just ain’t a true American!!!”

Great truths there. I hope that they don’t fall on deaf ears and closed minds. We do, as individuals and societies tend to get almost radically dogmatic in most facets of our lives. I can still remember being told that “If you don’t drive a Ford truck, you’re not a true American.”
