    KETOGENIC DIET
Kim, my history with saturated fats has been an interesting one to my understanding of my health. I have followed Atkins since the book first came out and only on a high fat, moderate protein and low carb diet have I lost weight and felt healthy. Then around 1999, I saw Dr Ornish on Oprah and bought his diet book and followed it to the T for four months. In that time I ate no fat from plant or animal sources. I had one small skinless chicken breast of piece of cod for supper and the rest of my meals came from low fat plant sources. I suspect I got ten or less percent calories from fat. I will add that I was getting over 30,000 walking steps a day and they were both up and down hill.
After four months my health had severely changed. I put on forty pounds. My triglycerides went from 2.0 mmol/L to 2.7- from fair to dangerous. My cholesterol went from 3.4 mmol/L to 7.2. Again from fair to dangerous.
I immediately went off Ornish and returned to Atkins. It was not a strict Atkins but I was not eating wheat flour, corn of any mode and no legumes and few high carb root crops and some rice. At my next set of tests about a year later, my triglycerides had doped to 1.14 mmol/L which are extremely low and my Cholesterol to 4.3 mmol/L with very low LDL and moderate HDL. When asked about this anomaly on a higher fat, low carb diet, the doctor replied that it often happened on an Atkins”s diet.
To date, my cholesterol has stayed much the same and my triglycerides have further dropped to 0.9 mmol/L which are very low for anyone, but especially for someone in his seventh decade.
I have used both oils you mentioned but virgin coconut oil is what I use now. After listening to your programme I am going to further increase my coconut oil intake.
I have met three young ‘out of the box’ thinkers in the past two days and have told them about rainmaking time. Two have already ventured to your podcasts and are impressed with the span of your discussions and agree that your shows (programmes) are far superior to what can be found on television or radio or other offerings on the internet.

    I’m a little confused.

At first he said that Coconut oil is stable and remain undamaged if heated. And then he talks about getting extra virgin coconut oil that is NOT heat extracted…? A bit of contradictions there.

Do coconut oil damage under heat or not?

Bernard, I have to go back and give the pod caste a listen. However, from what I have read, coconut oil can be used at high temperatures and still be free from damage. We used to get fabulous battered banana balls when I lived in Malaysia. Returning home I tried the recipe but the fragrance was missing. The oil I used was not virgin and looked like home rendered lard in the bottle. A year ago I gave the recipe a go using virgin coconut oil in the deep fryer and the fragrance was wonderful. My presumption, based on my reading on the heating of oils would be that there was, at worst, less damage and at best, no damage.

      Hi Bernard,

Coconut oil is safe to cook and does not go rancid. It is not damaged under heat when you cook it.

Let us know if your confusion is sorted.

Thank you for your kind and large donation. We really appreciated it.

I am fascinated by your recording Marvel of Ketones

I am participating with a company called Pruvit who now offers a product called KetoOS which is a revolutionary way to take ketones orally. It puts one into a state of ketosis in about 30 minutes.
It is amazing what this product is doing for thousands of people.
There is research behind this product from the University of South Florida.

Im sure you have heard of it. I would love your opinion on this amazing technology.

Thank You for your amazing books on coconut benefits
